I love this piece, from the realism of the objects (the dragon really looks as if he's real). The shading is great, it truly adds to the impact.
We grow up hearing of odl fairy tales where the maidens is being threatend by the vicious dragon. I always liked turning that old fable on its head, and its better when the art is not a carbon image of the usual: woman in armor with a sword ridign a dragon or princess with the tamed dragon's head on her lap. From the image and the title "Bonded", it makes me think of a woman who is in touch with both sides, the warrior and the maiden. The bond with a dragon implies inner strenght and in touch with old magics, yet she doesn't have the fierce scowl or armor of a warrior, suggesting she's not forgotten the civilized side of feminity.
The light and shadows gives an air of the mysterious, with the light coming through the misty trees behind them. With the foreground darker, it suggest they are deeper into the woods, and the wildness of ancient powers. The light coming from between their open hands suggests a meeting, perhaps blending ofold and new, of beast and mankind, and of wild magics (dragon) and civilized lands (the maiden).
