All works will be watermarked (to protect not only my work, but the stock providers as well) and uploaded to my gallery (if you want it to remain private, please state so).

If you would like to take part, all you have to do is fave this journal. If you would like to the points to go to someone other than yourself, please leave a comment. The five numbers will be drawn on Thursday.

A three-month subscription and 300 points are waiting.
Simply give your friend a shout-out in the comments, stating why they are looking to have either, or stating why you think they could use either.
The deviants will be selected in a couple days.
That is all.
Photomanipulation Galleries, Part 1Galleries Month
What exactly is Photomanipulation?
To put it simply, it is the process of using two or more photographic elements and piecing them together to create a whole new work. It is a more extensive process than retouching (which only involves changes to a single photo).
Were you ever unsure of where to place your completed piece? Keep reading for a brief description of the Abstract through Humorous galleries.
Emphasizes less on the natural world and more on the use of lines, colors, shapes, and textures to provide imagery.
Animals & Plants
Animals or plant-life are the main focus.

who always willingly give tips, hints, helpful comments

who give kind and or uplifting words where they see its needed
who feature and pimp projects and deviants who need support/help
who take the time to suggest DD's on a more or less regular basis
Printable GiftsGreetings, everyone.
I would like to do something in the coming months, and I could use some help if you're interested. It involves Project Wishlist. Prints make a wonderful gift - it's awesome opening your mail and finding one there. So this would be a great way to brighten the holidays.
So, if you are interested, your help would be greatly appreciated. Help could come in the form of point donations or by simply spreading the word. I'd love to get this project off the ground a bit (it's been dormant for some time).
So far there is no set number of prints that I'd like to purchase since the price range varies. I'm leaning toward 20, but it may be less, it may be more. There are different factors to depend on.
The deviants will most likely be selected randomly, but suggestions may also be taken.
Tentative deadline will be around mid-December.

HiatusI'm going through an immensely difficult financial situation right now, and I have no idea what to do about it. I am not making the income to pay my bills, my current job is so stingy with hours, and I'm not sure I'll be able to pick up a second job. I'm still a student, though I'll be graduating in May. I'm just so stressed - my checking account is currently empty, though luckily I get paid tomorrow. I'm to the point of thinking of cutting off my cable and internet, just to save something. I'm going to disappear until I get my affairs in order (and frankly, I'm fed up with some behavior on here, so another reason to take a break). Hopefully I can squeeze a second job in.
As for the photomanipulation Secret Santa event, if you haven't completed your art yet, I will note you who the gift is meant to go to. I'll be around for a couple more days to square things away with groups and whatnot.
Best wishes, and happy holidays.
Photography CR Newsletter: Nov - DecAs 2012 begins to draw to a close, here is a roundup of the past two months' shenanigans within the General Photography Galleries and a bit of an up-to-date news to get you kept in the loop!
Facebook has today changed its Terms of Service to allow Instagram to use your photographs pretty much for whatever it wants, whether that's advertising to sell or more. It's important that you, on an individual level, decide whether this is something that you want to have your work involved with or whether you stop using the service and move on to something else with a much more fairer Terms of Service. Regardless, be aware that things have changed. You can read more about that here. There are rumours that the TOS has now been changed again- but they are unconfirmed.
Over the past few months, we've shared lots of Photography bits and pieces with you. Hopefully things that will prove u
Daily Deviation Suggestion Drive!Back By Popular Demand!
In January of 2012, the community was challenged by thorns to do something about their complaints on dA. Thus was born this very group! But before the group, it was just a fledgling idea on LiliWrites's account that began with a DD Suggestion Contest. The results of that contest were overwhelming. And so, under the prodding of quite a few Community Volunteers, we're going to do it again!
UPDATE: Less than 1 week in and we've already got 100 suggested DDs and 2 accepted suggestions!! Keep up the great work guys and gals. Please remember that you need to leave a link to every deviation you suggest in this journa
Troubleshooting:How to Photograph Christmas Lights
I recently read an article on Reddit that explored the best way to photography Christmas lights and it raised some interesting points. Rather than re-hash what has already been said, I've delved into a few tutorials around the web to give an overview of some hints and tips - and will link them all at the end of this article so that you can investigate for yourself.
When you take a Photograph, the camera will often over-compensate with the colours that it's trying to capture and objects that look fairly white to the naked eye don't appear so in the photo that you've taken. White Balance aims to override that. But just setting your camera to Auto White Balance and hoping for the best is not good enough...
The above shots show the same location taken firstly with auto white balance - and then secondly with the white balance set to shade. Setting Shade me

New ProjectAfter the success of , I was inspired to do my own project along the same lines. I call it "Project Plushie". I intend to give 20 plushies to Toys for Tots this Christmas, and that would include 10 Fella plushies and 10 Super Llama plushies.
This is where you come in. I can't do it alone; I need help. I need points to buy them; specifically, 27,988 points. I recently gave my last 202 points to ToxicAlice92 for her project. Go to my page and donate points so that 20 children won't wake up on Christmas morning without a toy to cuddle. I'll buy more if I get over my goal.
Thank you for helping me help others less fortunate.

The first community-based Staff Appreciation Week happened last year, 2011, from August 8th to August 14th. Our goal is to promote positive community relations between deviants. We do this by creating relationships between the staff and the community, and by showing the staff that we really do appreciate all of their hard work! Anyone can help us plan this! Last y

3 Wonderful Projects for the New YearThere are three wonderful projectes that are starting 2012 off in an amazing direction here on deviantART. We wanted to share these with you all.
winehaus is working on collecting the tens of thousands of points to give out 100 Premium Memberships by next Holiday Season. Every donation helps so take a look
ToxicAlice92 is working on the Warm Winter Project Donations. Her goal is to raise the points to buy 50 deviantART Sweatshirts that she could then go and donate to the nearest homeless shelter in the new year. This wonderful project could help a lot of people and is well on its way to success!

Find a piece of artwork that is purple.
Browse through deviantART or browse through your favourites to find a piece of artwork that you really like (and is not your own). This image should be mostly purple, or include purple as an important color within the piece.

Project Plushie needs YOUR SUPPORTI bet you're wondering why I've written this News Article. Well, the reason, simply put, is this:
Now, you're probably wondering why I put a picture of my Cute Monsters contest entry in a news article. The simple fact of it is that if I win, I'll use some of the prize money to buy stuffed toys for underprivileged children for Christmas. I will buy 10 Fella plushies and 10 Super Llama plushies to give to Toys for Tots for Christmas, and that's where I need your help. Obviously I can't vote for myself, and I'm trying to raise the money (via ) to buy the plushies. If I don't get enough points by Christmas, and if I win the shirt competition, I'll buy the necessary amount of points left to buy the plushies. So if you want to do a kind deed, vote for my entry, donate points to me, or both. If you don't do either, I'll send the poor kids to you and then you can explain why they don't have a single toy under their tree on Christm
DeviantART'S 12th Birthday Gameshow: Starting soonDeviantART Birthday Gameshow is starting in just FIFTEEN MINUTES!
We're looking for game players to come and join in our deviantART Birthday Event! In just a short while 3wyl and myself are hosting an interpretation of a British game show called Pointless. The idea of the game is that you have to guess the least popular answer to a multiple answers question. You will be awarded points accordingly, those with the most points will win - but you will have used pointless answers to get there!
We'll have pre-judged the least popular and most popular answers by asking a panel of CVs beforehand for their responses. Want an example?
Name a Film Starring Tom Cruise
Okay so Mission Impossible is a really high answer and if you said that one, you'd get lots of points. Which isn't good! If you said Rain Man - you'd possibly be getting less points. But if you said something like Endless Love or Taps, then you'd be hitting on an answer tha
Photography Troubleshooting: Dull Images on dA?After a long pause in which nobody seemed to have very many questions, we've got a very intriguing one which came up during the People & Portraits projecteducate week and it's something that has always played on my mind, and no doubt on yours too. Once again sine-out has provided a fantastic answer, so hopefully that will help somewhat in clearing this issue up. Have a question? Drop it on this article and we'll work on an answer!

"Have no fear of perfection - You'll never reach it! "
Have you studied Photography? I'm intrigued to know whether or not a qualification in Photography has made you a better, or indeed a worse photographer. Or has there been no change? This week, The Photography Blog asks whether or not a Photography Degree is worth the paper it's written on. Graduation in any field these days doesn't mean that you'll immediately get a job in your desired area. Not these days. So is it worth embarking on study related to photography when in the end, you could get to the same place without the paper stating what you are capable of? Photography is one of a small number of job areas where what you've done speaks higher volumes than whether or not you're

Basking in the glory of finally getting recognised for your hard efforts and photographic skill is pretty awesome and at the start of this week I took the opportunity to enjoy georgewjohnson's after he got published in a UK Photography Magazine. It's really nice when something like that happens and the knowledge that across the country - and because of deviantART and other networks - across the world, people are looking at your work. And if you're me, smiling! I once stumbled across lauren-rabbit's work in Black and White Photography Magazine and was truly proud that somebody I had found here on deviantART was here in my mag! So have you been published? Has your work received any recognition that makes you proud? What are your tips to getting out there and having your work showcased?
