Photomanipulation Galleries, Part 1Galleries MonthWhat exactly is Photomanipulation? To put it simply, it is the process of using two or more photographic elements and piecing them together to create a whole new work. It is a more extensive process than retouching (which only involves changes to a single photo).GalleriesWere you ever unsure of where to place your completed piece? Printable GiftsGreetings, everyone. I would like to do something in the coming months, and I could use some help if you're interested. It involves Project Wishlist. Prints make a wonderful gift - it's awesome opening your mail and finding one there. So this would be a great way to brighten the holidays. So, if you are interested, your help would be greatly appreciated. Help could come in the form of point donations or by simply spreading the word. I'd love to get this project off the ground a bit (it's been dormant for some time). So far there is no set number of prints that I'd like to purchase since the price range varies. I'm leaning toward 20, but it may be less, it may be more. There are different factors to depend on.The deviants will most likely be selected randomly, but suggestions may also be taken. Tentative deadline will be around mid-December.Thank you for r

Flash Manip Challenge 03 - TwistedYou've heard of flash mobs, right? Large groups of people that meet in public places and perform in some way for a short amount of time, then disperse and act as if nothing happened, leaving everyone else surprised and confused? I figured I'd try to incorporate something like that into a short challenge. You will be given a theme. The idea is to quickly piece together a manip based on that theme. Because the time limit to complete it will be short, technical skill will not be heavily judged. There will be more of these challenges, but they will not be on a set schedule. Like a flash mob, they're meant to surprise you and keep you on your toes. Guidelines for Challenge 3Theme: Twisted: take a common idea, story, myth, etc. and give it a major twistTime limit: 3 days (due by 11:59pm EST March 4th)You will be judged on creativity/originality & how well you fit the themeThe work must be brand new for this challenge<b>
Thank you!!I just wanted to stop and say thank you all for the birthday wishes. I haven't had much time on the internet lately, but I will definitely go through the messages and answer them one by one. Each one is appreciated.
Photography CR Newsletter: Nov - DecAs 2012 begins to draw to a close, here is a roundup of the past two months' shenanigans within the General Photography Galleries and a bit of an up-to-date news to get you kept in the loop!Facebook has today changed its Terms of Service to allow Instagram to use your photographs pretty much for whatever it wants, whether that's advertising to sell or more. It's important that you, on an individual level, decide whether this is something that you want to have your work involved with or whether you stop using the service and move on to something else with a much more fairer Terms of Service. Regardless, be aware that things have changed. You can read more about that here. There are rumours that the TOS has now been changed again- but they are unconfirmed.Over the past few months, we've shared lots of Photography bits and pieces with you. Hopefully things that will prove u
Daily Deviation Suggestion Drive!Back By Popular Demand! In January of 2012, the community was challenged by thorns to do something about their complaints on dA. Thus was born this very group! But before the group, it was just a fledgling idea on LiliWrites's account that began with a DD Suggestion Contest. The results of that contest were overwhelming. And so, under the prodding of quite a few Community Volunteers, we're going to do it again! UPDATE: Less than 1 week in and we've already got 100 suggested DDs and 2 accepted suggestions!! Keep up the great work guys and gals. Please remember that you need to leave a link to every deviation you suggest in this journa
Troubleshooting:How to Photograph Christmas LightsI recently read an article on Reddit that explored the best way to photography Christmas lights and it raised some interesting points. Rather than re-hash what has already been said, I've delved into a few tutorials around the web to give an overview of some hints and tips - and will link them all at the end of this article so that you can investigate for yourself. When you take a Photograph, the camera will often over-compensate with the colours that it's trying to capture and objects that look fairly white to the naked eye don't appear so in the photo that you've taken. White Balance aims to override that. But just setting your camera to Auto White Balance and hoping for the best is not good enough...The above shots show the same location taken firstly with auto white balance - and then secondly with the white balance set to shade. Setting Shade me
Photography Troubleshooting: PetsPhotographing pets whether for yourself or as part of a job, is becoming increasingly popular and the demand for tips and tutorials is ever on the increase. Within this weeks article we hope to give you a few pointers and answer a few queries that might have come up. Talty asked us this..."My camera has a pets & kids setting but they still come out blurry.I've tried every setting, so far I've had better results with the "EASY"setting, but they still come out only decent."Talty is using a high end Canon Powershot which is fantastic for things like still life photography, landscapes and working up close with static options and scenery. But when it comes to photographing animals and in particular as Talty is attempting - kittens, it doesn't compensate for the difficulties such a subject poses. For example kittens are incredibly wriggly, and as Talty has found, getting them to stay still in any one place is a nightmare! So naturally you need a camera that can al

New ProjectAfter the success of , I was inspired to do my own project along the same lines. I call it "Project Plushie". I intend to give 20 plushies to Toys for Tots this Christmas, and that would include 10 Fella plushies and 10 Super Llama plushies. This is where you come in. I can't do it alone; I need help. I need points to buy them; specifically, 27,988 points. I recently gave my last 202 points to ToxicAlice92 for her project. I'll buy more if I get over my goal.Thank you for helping me help others less fortunate.

Community Curation Experiment: Submit Art Now!I'd like to try out an experiment: creating an art feature curated by the community.Find a piece of artwork that is purple.Browse through deviantART or browse through your favourites to find a piece of artwork that you really like (and is not your own). This image should be mostly purple, or include purple as an important color within the piece. In the comments of this journal, simply paste a link to one deviation. All curators will be credited in the feature.
Photography Weekly: Edition Thirty TwoPhotography Weekly Header created by TouchedD" What's the most obscure subject you have been asked to photograph?"If there is one vital thing that I have learned in my years as an amateur photographer - it's that to diversify and spread yourself amongst as many outlets, ideas and topics as possible is the best way to move forward and become successful. Photography doesn't begin or end with a Wedding. Nor does it start with a fashion shoot that pays you hundreds of pounds. There are so many niches and gaps in between that people overlook as lesser known and inadequate - but that can be one of the strongest rungs on the ladder to success. (See what I did there?) It's coming to the end of a week where I've stretched myselfphotographically, more so than usual, and I'm more than happy to share what I have learned in order to help out those who want to step up with their work. Last week I was recruited by an image company as aphotographer documenting ins
PE DD Week: A DD is not an award, but a feature.A DD is not an award but an art feature.There. I said it. A DD is not a prestigious award that will change your life drastically, it's just a 24h feature. But why is it so important to make this distinction? It's just a way of naming something and therefore should not be of great importance, yet it makes all the difference in how people perceive a DD.On the importance of terminologyAs mentioned in the intro, the biggest problem when it comes to Daily Deviations arises with the choice of words used to describe what a Daily Deviaton is. When you call it an award, people will automatically assume that the Daily Deviation is the cream of the crop of every deviation posted ever on this site and that no art featured after it should be able to be perceived as "worse". However, when you call it a feature, most people are fine with the picked deviations and don't even hold them to the high standards of living up and
DeviantART'S 12th Birthday Gameshow: Starting soonDeviantART Birthday Gameshow is starting in just FIFTEEN MINUTES!We're looking for game players to come and join in our deviantART Birthday Event! In just a short while 3wyl and myself are hosting an interpretation of a British game show called Pointless. The idea of the game is that you have to guess the least popular answer to a multiple answers question. You will be awarded points accordingly, those with the most points will win - but you will have used pointless answers to get there! We'll have pre-judged the least popular and most popular answers by asking a panel of CVs beforehand for their responses. Want an example? Name a Film Starring Tom Cruise Okay so Mission Impossible is a really high answer and if you said that one, you'd get lots of points. Which isn't good! If you said Rain Man - you'd possibly be getting less points. But if you said something like Endless Love or Taps, then you'd be hitting on an answer tha
November ThankstivityIt is easy to point out the flaws....Cliques, lack of communication, bad art that gets too many views, good art that doesn't get enough views, crappy DDs, and on and on and on. The complaints people have about deviantART could fill a book the length of the Bible, but November is a month for remembering what we have to be thankful for and so I challenge you, Solutions Seekers, to take a look around and find at least three things about deviantART that make you thankful for the community. The ChallengeCreate a deviation or journal that explores at least three reasons you're thankful for deviantART. It can be anything from tutorials and other resources to friends you've made to great art you've stumbled across to a favorite group. Whatever it is that keeps you coming back, I want to know about it.Rules One entry per deviant. For this challenge, no mature content please. Let's make

Photography Troubleshooting: Dull Images on dA?After a long pause in which nobody seemed to have very many questions, we've got a very intriguing one which came up during the People & Portraits projecteducate week and it's something that has always played on my mind, and no doubt on yours too. Once again sine-out has provided a fantastic answer, so hopefully that will help somewhat in clearing this issue up. Have a question? Drop it on this article and we'll work on an answer!"It seems like colorful pictures made in adobe look good, then afterthey have been uploaded on deviantART... the color is more dead.. not soalive..is this an issue?" ~ kayjensen "Hi kayjensen, the issue your describing is most likely a colour profile issue. Colour profiles essentially describe how each colour is represented and there are different profiles for different purpose but mostly for getting accurate colour out of a printer or a screen.By default the internet works with and assumes that every
